Our Story.
Welcome to Smallcakes: A Cupcakery And Creamery! We are a military, family-owned business in the heart of Boerne, Texas! My name is Rachel and I grew up in a small town just south of Kansas City. After College, I moved to Olathe, KS – just a few miles from the very first Smallcakes! I quickly fell in love with Jeff Martin’s sweet treats and would make weekly trips to grab a delicious cupcake or place orders to gift them to friends and family.
I met my husband, B.J., in College Station, TX in 2009 and we were married in Boerne, TX in 2011.While stationed at McConnel AFB in Wichita, KS, a Smallcakes opened just down the road from our home. I was ecstatic to say the least! In 2014 we were stationed at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO and Smallcakes followed us there!! Yes, cupcakes were following us! I had submitted a written response to a contest Smallcakes Colorado Springs was having and I won a dozen cupcakes!
Our Story.
I loved how much joy that brought me while my husband was deployed at the time. I imagined how great it would be to bring joy to others, so I researched the franchise and presented the opportunity to my husband.
The timing couldn’t have been more perfect as we had just found out we were being stationed at Kelly Field Annex at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX, just a short commute to Boerne, TX. We decided it was an incredible opportunity and decided to open a Smallcakes in the town we fell in love with in 2011.

Jeff Martin founded the wildly popular Smallcakes Cupcakery that bakes and frosts 18 signature flavors every morning, fresh from scratch. Smallcakes features seasonal and special flavors created by Jeff. After appearances on the Food Network’s “Cupcake Wars” seasons one, two, and seven as well as on the hit daytime talk show “The View,” Smallcakes became well known and in hot demand in neighborhoods across the nation. Even celebrities have had Smallcakes at their events and weddings. USA TODAY listed Smallcakes as one of the Top Ten Cupcake Places to try in the country.
Smallcakes believes in its slogan of “Maybe a Cupcake Will Help?” and has been growing their neighborhood cupcakery across the world. Our mission statement is how we have grown our little cupcake store. “To use creative flavors, quality ingredients, and friendly service to provide the finest cupcake experience worthy of returning and recommending.”
